Job Summary
Patient care in the Division of General Surgery, Comprehensive
Weight Management Program.
The Advanced Practice Clinician (physician assistant/nurse
practitioner) role in the Comprehensive Weight Management Program
provides care to patients in a University Health Sciences clinic.
Individual will provide outpatient care for medically complex
patients with obesity and obesity related conditions. We seek a
patient-focused, compassionate, self-motivated provider with
excellent communication skills who has the ability to work
effectively in a team environment. Our APCs are valued members of
our teams and work collaboratively with physicians as well as
independently. In addition to working in a world class institution

The Comprehensive Weight Management Program is a multi-disciplinary
program that currently consists of physicians, APCs, dietitians and
an exercise physiologist along with collaboration with other
specialists.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required
on-campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations.

Responsibilities
Independent outpatient clinic 4 days/week, 1 administrative
dayProvide dietary and lifestyle education to promote weight
lossPrescribing FDA approved medications for the treatment of
obesity according to state and federal guidelines Provide
appropriate treatment and care for patients with obesity related
conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart failure, hypertension,
fatty liver disease, etc. Providing appropriate care for bariatric
surgery patients in the pre- and post-op periodTreatment of vitamin
and nutrient deficienciesRespond to outpatient messages and
telephone callsObtaining and reviewing patient's medical
historyConducting physical examinationsOrdering and reviewing
laboratory studies as well as diagnostic proceduresReviewing
patients' progress and manages patient care accordinglyMaintaining
all required documentation for patient careProviding training to
clinical and non-clinical staff as neededParticipating in team
meetings, education conferences, special projects as requiredAssist
in the collection for research projects This job description is not

Minimum Qualifications
Required:
Current licensure to practice as a Physician's Assistant from the
State of Utah.
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University
of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within
30 days of hire.
Preferred:
Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your
department or by privileging criteria.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated
